Life Is A Flower

We live in a free world
I whistle down the wind
Carry on smiling
And the world will smile with you
Life is a flower
So precious in your hand
Carry on smiling
And the world will smile with you

When every race is run
And the day is closing in
I don’t care about the world
I’m living for the light
Don’t cry for me today

(Ace of Base – Life Is A Flower)

Did she just quote a Ace of Base song? Yes, I certainly did! That’s how deep I am. Hah. Now I have to throw off my flowers tights and jump into something more suitable for Friday night out. Enjoy your Friday!

I’m a walking H&M Trend poster today. Minus the shoes (Nilson), bag (Marc by Marc Jacobs), sequin beanie (Primark) and jeweleries (Hermès, Bik Bok and random).

Besides from trying to call spring by wearing lighter clothes, catching up on tons of reading and apartment hunting, I’m addicted to the debut album of Ellie Goulding titled Lights.

Be Mine

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Had a gift certificate which I spent on this chunky chain necklace. I got a thing for chunky chains (not in a fetishistic sense, you filthy mind!), and this might end up as one of my new favorites.

Photos: Private

Another new found favorite I first discovered today is ‘Ellie Goulding and Erik Hassle – Be Mine (Robyn Cover)‘. Can’t believe I first heard this version today. ‘Robyn – Be Mine’ has got me through thick and thin through the years and this cover is just fantastically beautiful. The voices of Ellie and Erik collide perfectly. Ellie Goulding is on the line-up of Hovefestivalen this year, along with three other favorites of mine of the confirmed artists so far: Lindstrøm, Florence + The Machine and Empire of the Sun. Can’t wait for summertime and festival fun!

Outskirts

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Photos: Private

I skipped my daily coffee today and spent the money on two new skirts instead. 49 SEK each on sale. Woop what a scoop!

Aaand I realized this is actually my third blog post today. Gosh! I spend too much time by the computer as a student procrastinating everything else I should do…such as read. I hope nobody is complaining about any lack of posting now (you might start complaining about the frequency though, hihi) and that you’re still following! If you haven’t already, add me to Bloglovin to get the latest post whenever I update.

Now I promise I wont blog more for today so enjoy the rest of your Tuesday! I am – with home made coffee, chocolate covered banana chips, Booka Shade – Outskirts (Trentemøller Remix) playing on my iTunes and I should start reading The Leopard for next weeks seminary. Just rekindled my Booka Shade flame when I found out that they’re throwing concerts in Scandinavia in March. Last time I experienced them live was at Øya Natt 2008 and it was aaamazing!

I’m Still An Animal

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Photos: Private

There was a time when my world was filled with darkness, darkness, darkness
And I stopped dreaming now
I’m supposed to fill it up with something, something , something
In your eyes I see the eyes of somebody i knew before long long long ago
But I’m still trying to make my mind up
Am I free or am I tied up

I change shapes just to hide in this place but I’m still, I’m still an animal
Nobody knows it but me when i slip yeah i slip
I’m still an animal

(Miike Snow – Animal)

Wow, really? A decent outfit post? I’m protesting against the never ending snow and winter over here in Scandinavia by layering bright colors mixed with animal prints (the scarf is from the nice goodiebag I got at Modediamanten hosted by Modette last week. Thank you!) and my second hand fur vest I inherited from my mom. I feel like a walking jungle with all this animal inspired items today. So I’m playing Miike Snow – Animal (Fred Falke Remix) on my Spotify just to get in the right spirit this lovely Friday. Happy Friday everone!

Hungry For House?

Mia requested my top 10 house music favorites, but since I’m finding so much hot music these days I’ll do my favorites at the moment instead. Enjoy and let me know if you like it! I might do more music posts in the future.

Ellie Goulding – Starry Eyed (Russ Chimes)

This is the best remix so far of Starry Eyed in my opinion. Russ Chimes seldom disappoints. No wonder I want to carry his children!

Adrian Lux – Teenage Crime

Whenever I listen to this song I’m ready to cruise with the roof down and feel the summer breeze on a road trip somewhere. The Axwell Remix isn’t bad either.

Miike Snow – Animal (Fake Blood Remix)

I always get happy when I listen to Animal, and this remix is one of the best out there. Miike Snow and Fake Blood together, can’t go wrong!

Helsinki 78-82 feat. Villa Nah – So Lifelike (download link)

Lifelike – So Electric is my favorite house song EVER. That’s why it’s no shock that I love this Finnish take on the song. Perfectly chill version of So Electric with Helsinki 78-82′s own touch.

La Roux vs. Black Eyed Peas – I Gotta Kill (Laidback Luke Bootleg v2)

In It For The Kill and I Gotta Feeling must have been some of the most played songs on the general clubbing scene in 2009. I don’t really like bootlegs, but this one is good. Then again it’s Laidback Luke rockin’ it. A nice mix of both songs. Makes you want to get up and dance and party all night long!

Needy Girl

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

Started this morning with the film Sunset Boulevard from 1950 at Filmhuset, followed by lunch at my place, then lecture at the University and a round at Söder with Jessica and Jenny. I was looking forward to end the day with beer and great music at Marie Laveau. The Berlin based dj-duo Chromeo is on a DJ-Kicks tour and are stopping by Stockholm tonight. The plan was to dance my feet off to ‘Bonafied Lovin’, ‘Needy Girl’, ‘Fancy Footwork’ and more hip electronic beats, but since I woke up this morning with christmas red eyes, I have to pass. And I don’t mean christmas spirit red, just red eyes in the color of everything christmas. Got some infection so people have probably thought I’ve been sad and cried my eyes out all day. Emo girl. Needy girl. Potato potatooo french fries!

I’m comforting myself with this playlist on Spotify which is all Chromeo instead. It can’t really compare to seeing them play live. Obviously! But it’s better than nothing and hopefully there will always be another chance.

Well, I said I might share what was in my Monki bag yesterday. This patterned circle scarf and a red satin bow. I’m addicted to circle scarves and I never say no to a funky pattern – and bows, you know what I think about them!

Heartbreaker

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

I love the Balenciaga Spring/Summer 2010 show. Not because of the clothes or styling actually, although Nicholas Ghesqueire is always a genius when it comes to texture and fit. But the dj, Michel Gaubert, is also wonderful behind the mixing table. For this Balenciaga show he used two of my favorites: Metronomy – Heartbreaker and Fever Ray – If I Had A Heart (Fuck Buttons Remix). Mmm!

Gosh, what an unusual weekend! Details later. Have to run off to work and then catch a bus back to Stockholm tonight.

Bourgeois Is The New Punk

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

Recently stumbled  upon Kitsuné‘s Spring/Summer 2010 collection titled “Golf Club“. Kitsuné’s collection teasers are too cute! You must watch.

I’m also looking forward to the release of Kitsuné Maison 8. Normally one of my favorite music compilations. You also get a taste of the tracks in the collection teaser above.

While we’re on the wait, read the interview with the Kitsuné crew over at Full Frontal Fashion.

Whatcha Say?

hello-kitty-cupcakes

I’m having too much fun that I’ve forgot you! Well, not really! The fun part is true.  Had a busy typical Oslo weekend filled with fun, nice people and good times. Barely had time to check out Facebook. Crisis! Was at work all day on Saturday, rushed home and in the shower, fixed hair, make-up and costume and out to Halloween party. Was so good to see people I haven’t seen for two whole months and clubbing was fun besides the touchy boys. Woke up with my best Ingri today and went to Charlott for her birthday slash cake party. Lots of yummy cakes, cinnamon rolls and candy! Fun for the kidz! My camera battery died when I arrived the party yesterday, so pictures from the weekend to come when the other attendants publish theirs.

Hope you had a fabulous Halloween weekend dressed as whatever! Speaking of dress, I’m having plans about cleaning my wardrobe when being home this week. Watch out for items for sale coming at this blog! Now Jason Derulo and I are going to enjoy ‘Whatcha Say‘.  Later!

Disco Disco

bustier-ball-slufse

Some people count the days to Christmas. I count the days to my homecoming. Only nine days left now – and I’m discoing my way home and out of this cage to Oslo and staying there for whole ten days! I miss my friends so bad that I’m jumping up and down of the thought of going home soon.

If I’m lucky I get to see Phoenix in concert when I’m home. And since I’m a house head and Phoenix is quite remix-friendly these days, I’ve become totally addicted to Phoenix – Love Like A Sunset Part I (Passion Pit’s Shuttle Remix).

Day-To-Day Living

Monday, October 12th, 2009

Any idiot can face a crisis. It is the day-to-day living that wears you out.

I’m constantly tired, stressed out about the upcoming exam (I’m way behind on the reading), a million thoughts running through my head, worried about the economy right now, I miss a certain someone, tired of feeling lonely and the whole thing of adjusting to a new lifestyle and new city all by myself is wearing me out. I don’t remember the last time I just were myself. I miss Natalie. I miss being genuinely happy.

Besides from my ‘Dear Diary…’ entry here, I’m trying to read Camera Lucida by Roland Barthes at the library now with ‘Phoenix – Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix occupying my ears.  Camera Lucida is an interesting book where the author is reflecting on photography by examining the themes of presence and abscense, the relationship between photography and theatre, history and death.

And here’s a bit motivation reading along the road for you in the same situation as myself – just to get through the day, the week or the everyday challenges…

hallwylska-innlevering

The time is over 9 PM and I just got home from Uni, where I’ve been since 11 AM this morning. I was actually done early with my essay for tomorrow, just needed some touching up, but then the touching up took a whole day. But now I’m finally done writing about and analyzing this black Court dress below, which belonged to Wilhelmina Hallwylska, from the nineteenth century. Now I just want to get drunk, but I’m too tired and hungry. I also have to get up early tomorrow to catch the fashion symposium at Filmhuset (Film Institute) in the morning. Among others, Valerie Steele (editor of Fashion Theory) and writer Christopher Breward is lecturing about fashion and materiality.

hovball-hallwylska

I’m looking forward to a full and busy weekend. On top of the fashion symposium tomorrow and Saturday – I want to see the films that are shown at Kulturhuset about French fashion. Saturday they’re screening behind the scenes of Chanel fashion shows and on Sunday it’s a whole day of YSL, Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton documentaries. In the evening 2ManyDjs are waiting for me at Berns and house warming party on Saturday. I have to try to sneak in some reading somewhere in between. Good luck, Natalie. Work hard, play hard!

Geek In Red

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Most of this Tuesday was spent at the public library reading with albums like ‘Kent – Tillbaka Till Samtiden‘ and ‘Empire Of The Sun – Walking On A Dream‘ on the ear. It’s me and Jamie Lynn (reference: Entourage). Hah! I’ve become quite the geek and actually enjoying it.  I want to be a student forever. After 5 hours of almost straight sitting my ass tasted like wood and I decided to walk all the way home with a pit-stop at the groceries store. I feel so grown-up and routine-ish. It sort of scares me. I miss the spontaneous and playful Natalie who combined work and play perfectly. I guess it’s a combination of the autumn and moving to a new city alone. It limits the options in a way.

29-september-09

Black lace top (H&M Trend), red bubble skirt (American Apparel), navy studded belt (Zara), tweed biker jacket (Zara), black boots (Monki), blue scarf (Zara Basics), accessories (Hermes and random), blueberry City bag (Balenciaga)

Now I’m enjoying a yummy chicken pasta salad and Idol. I’m so totally mainstream. If I’m lucky S is joining me with a new episode of Gossip Girl later. Yay!

Sky And Sand

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

Uhm, I’m actually blogging at least once a day and sometimes even twice so far. That’s what I call a comeback! ;)

Still waiting for my mom to send me the camera charger by snail mail, so until then you have to cope with webcam or mobile camera.

15-sep-09-4

I’m having a tiny study break, listening to ‘Paul Kalkbrenner – Sky And Sand‘ and thought I’d share today’s outfit with you. Nothing more exciting than that. Now I have heaps of studying to do before it’s Swedish Idol on TV,  followed by a new Gossip Girl episode on my computer and a slice of yummy kladdkake. I love Tuesdays!

15-sep-09

Grey high waist harem trousers (H&M Trend), blush pink blouse (Vero Moda), cream and silver threaded knitted vest (Bik Bok), beige-gray flats with silk bows (Woolline), jeweleries by Hermes, Pieces, H&M and Glitter.

New In Town

Saturday, September 12th, 2009

I’m getting ready to go to the city for coffee and kladdkake (the world’s best cake!) x 2, while ‘Little Boots – New In Town (Fred Falke Remix)‘ is playing on my Spotify.

12-sep-08-5

I’m sorry for the poor images, but during an IKEA session earlier today the battery of the camera died and I got home and realized that I left the charger at home in Norway. Fail! Luckily for you, my Acer Aspire One and it’s webcam came to the rescue.

I’m wearing black laced top (H&M Trend), layered with a plain black tank top (Filippa K), grey acid wash skinny jeans (Pieces), nude blazer (H&M Trend), black boots (Monki), black leather bag (Marc by Marc Jacobs) and accessories from H&M, Pieces, random and Hermes.
