Oh So Pretty

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

This alluring cover is one of the reasons why I’m looking forward to the March issue of Vogue UK. Lana Del Rey wearing from my glance looks like my piece of dream Louis Vuitton dress? And the cover is all pink and girly. Superficial me like a lot! But what happened to the G in Vogue lately? Did they just chop it off and replaced it with the cover models head?

G or not, now I just need to finish up reading through the February issue. First, I have to finish all these deadlines schmeadlines of this week. It’s going to be a big relief. Like writing check on everything on the longest to do list in a long time.

A Doll’s House

The 70′s hippie style is returning in a modern version this fall. Boho-chic has never been a part of my personal style vocabulary, but when it is styled in a more doll sense, it’s suddenly so much more “me”. Hello delicate socks in wedges, bow hairband, patterned babydoll dress which was found in my mother’s wardrobe (I think I just might have to exchange closets with her soon) and weird transformed legs are also a genetic heritage from her. Wore a beige biker-ish leather jacket over when I went to the Elle and Bianco event followed up by a stop at the Monki Magazine release yesterday evening.

The September Issue

Have you remember to buy the September Issue yet, ya’all?! The best Vogue issue there is of the year. I’m reading my way through the UK version for a start. Can’t remember the last time I just spent my day at the coffee shop enjoying a fresh brewed cup of latte with a hint of mint or cinnamon sirup and reading newspapers and magazines. Today I finally had a day off to do such before I was joined with good company and we continued strolling the streets of Oslo when the sun peaked through the skies talking about everything and nothing. It was nice not running from place to place and being a busy bee all day through for once. And yeah, notice how my Balenciaga Blueberry match the dishes, the blueberry muffin and the Vogue cover. Such a blue thread and so not planned. Promise!

Yummy! Barbeint var han også. Må bare elske Oslo by og avslappede tirsdager.

Undisclosed Desires

While I know the beach season is arriving too closely, morning work outs are for me more therapy and the best way to start a morning off. Too bad I usually sleep through my three snooze alarms. This morning was an exception and while I was assuming that I had to drag my feet after me to complete the morning run, the feet and legs were dragging me instead. Oh boy, it felt great! While I was running the thoughts were running along in my head and I was reflecting over my coming essay in the last course of this year. Did you guess that all those great ideas were popping through my head like a popcorn in a microwave? Well, guess again. The ideas for the research and writing of the essay weren’t flowing like the beats on my iPod, but every other thought of writing was.

Writing is what I want to do the rest of my life. Write private personal entries about my feelings, thoughts, closures, relations and my come and go existent love life, write about music, fashion, photography, art, culture and everything else that catches my interest, finish writing on my secret book and I even like writing essays for school. Geek? Pretentious? Fine by me! I will save you the headache and pass writing poems though.

When I don’t write I like reading everything, where the inspiration often lies. So when I came home from my run and enjoyed my second cup of coffee, breakfast and the latest issues of Norwegian Elle and SVA Magazine, it was a pleasure opening them both. Probably my favorite magazines so far this month because of the texts, interviews and that tiny depth I often miss in many other fashion magazine. The great editorials and materialistic parts are a bonus, although it often is the opposite because fashion is superficial, but actually not that shallow as we tend to think.

Anyone actually bother to read all this? I guess not. Text doesn’t belong to fashion blogs, que?

Fashion Literature

Fashion is the literature of woman, each outfit her individual style. (Baron Octave Uzanne)

I was reading through my course literature yesterday for the big exam today, amongst other in Fashion Theory: The Journal of Dress, Body and Culture (Volume 8, Number 1, March 2004 to be exact), which is edited by Valerie Steele and is highly recommended even for those of you who doesn’t give a damn about my course literature, and found this remarkable quote be Uzanne.

On my part there’s literally been a lot of French and Italian fashion, a bunch of literature and not much sleep the past few days. I always start out each course being ambitious and as always I end up being stressed as ever the days before the exam. Now I’m finally done and tired and spent the day drinking coffee and shopping with the girls to keep myself awake. Now I’m home with the March issue of Vogue US and something new in a plastic bag. I might show you later! Now I’m going to put away my course literature (until the new course tomorrow) and enjoy my Diet Coke and the power issue of Vogue. I’m especially looking forward to dig into the pages featuring front row bloggers who also happen to be a few of my favorite bloggers, like Bryanboy, Facehunter, Hanneli, Garance Doré, Tommy Ton and The Selby. Check out this clip on Youtube for a little web extra for those of you who haven’t found the March issue yet.

All Good Things Come In Three

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Today’s gonna be a good day… Just because it’s already is! Let me share three reasons why:

Un. Today’s lecture at school was about fashion journalism. Very interesting indeed. We briefed through the history of the biggest fashion magazines with focus on Vogue, then followed by fashion photography. When I opened my computer to write notes, the first thing that hit me was my desktop posted below, very spot on in other words. I miss the old covers of Vogue. Not that I lived before the years of 1986, but by browsing through the archive they look so much more appealing. Now every magazine cover looks the same.

Deux. My favorite Chanel showed it’s AW2010 Collection in Paris today. Looks like Karl Lagerfeld has been watching a lot of Ice Age lately.  The runway was a huge real ice berg melting while the models went down wearing fur and other winter friendly chic wear with a hint of haute couture. Finally a designer who actually makes clothes wearable for the winter and not only the fall. If Chanel made the clogs an it-item this coming spring, I’m smelling that the mukluks are going to be big this winter.

Trois. Gossip Girl is finally back on the screen after a pause. I can’t wait for more Upper East Side drama. I’m saving the newest episode showed yesterday, “The Hurt Locket“, for tonight as a prize for today’s hopefully efficient reading for the coming exam. Is my life sad if this is the highlight of my week? Hah. Who says spending 50 minutes with my future husband aka Chuck Bass is sad? I think not!

La Gazette To Vogue

I’m back in Stockholm after a lot of errands and sickness in Oslo. Unfortunately I had to pass Oslo Fashion Week due to school priorities. Started back in Stockholm with an intensive day first at the University, then I went to the city looking for a new camera as a prize/gift from my mom because of my A on the last home exam. Woop! I finally have a camera again with some help by sweetie Jessica, so watch out, I’m back in the game!

Today’s lecture was about Paris fashion and the consequences during World War I. We had a lot about the first avant-garde designer Paul Poiret and how his oriental inspired designs influenced fashion, mostly through the fashion illustrations that worked as a new medium to present fashion, but some were also a piece of art. Poiret used illustrators as Iribe and Lepape, where many of Lepape’s illustrations  appeared in the leading fashion magazine in France named La Gazetta du Bon Ton. Later this magazine was taken over by Condé Nast (founder of Condé Nast Publications) situated in New York and he turned it into Vogue instead. If you still are hanging on, this was today’s little lecture from me to you. Now you know a tiny bit of the worlds most influential magazine’s origin if you didn’t already knew. You’re welcome!

The fashion illustrations have come a long way since then, but the illustrations are still beautiful, huh?

This Is Not a Love Story

500daysofsummer

Photo: allmoviephoto.com

Boy meets girl. Girl meets boy. Boy fall in love. Girl doesn’t. Is this is a love story? No, this is a story about love. A story about coincidence and heartbreak… Reality in other words.

I wanted to see 500 Days of Summer since I saw the trailer, but since I hate watching films alone and my usual company doesn’t like the same films as I, it just never happened. But after Sandra‘s post about it I just had to see it alone the other night. I didn’t cry as much her, but it did touch me. It’s the perfect offbeat romantic comedy. And hey, IKEA dates. Genius. Been there done that. Totally recommended.

Watching beautiful Zoeey Deschanel and her retro-chic outfits and natural bows in her hair during the film is just a bonus. Not that she’s not as blue-eyed and pretty off set. Just looking at these photos she did with InStyle made me green of envy.

Now I’m off to watch other blue colored figures at the movies. Avatar in 3D! Woop!

Dazed & Confused November

DazedandConfused-November

Photos: dazedmagonline.com

Dazed&Confused November Issue is out online now for those of you who are broke as me or too slow buying magazines. Dazed&Confused is one of my favorite magazines and this issue is no exception. Lily Cole looks out of this world (get it? hihi) on the cover and I wouldn’t mind wearing the beatnik knitted sweater to the right from French Connection either.
