Karla Spetic

Wow, I just found a new favorite Australian designer. Where have you been all my life? The Karla Spetic Autumn Winter 2010 Collection is perfectly my taste. I love the color palette (the mix of pastels with unexpected colors), the cuttings of the outerwear and mini-dresses, the pinching and twisting (a bit like Burberry Prorsum SS2010), the knitted skirts, the bow head band, the color blocked cardigans, the draping and of course the illustrated prints. All in all the cleanness. Love x 100. The collection gives me a feeling of floating on cloud. Very dreamy indeed.

Alexander McQueen AW2010

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Photos: style.com

By browsing through the final collection of Alexander McQueen it feels like visiting a museum. Every piece and every detail is so hauntingly beautiful. There is something peaceful over his last creations and the styling matches very well. The last gown is just…what can I say? Simply McQueen. According to vogue.co.uk all the patterns in this collection were cut on the stand by Lee McQueen himself. I hope he has found eternal peace where he is now.

All Good Things Come In Three

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Today’s gonna be a good day… Just because it’s already is! Let me share three reasons why:

Un. Today’s lecture at school was about fashion journalism. Very interesting indeed. We briefed through the history of the biggest fashion magazines with focus on Vogue, then followed by fashion photography. When I opened my computer to write notes, the first thing that hit me was my desktop posted below, very spot on in other words. I miss the old covers of Vogue. Not that I lived before the years of 1986, but by browsing through the archive they look so much more appealing. Now every magazine cover looks the same.

Deux. My favorite Chanel showed it’s AW2010 Collection in Paris today. Looks like Karl Lagerfeld has been watching a lot of Ice Age lately.  The runway was a huge real ice berg melting while the models went down wearing fur and other winter friendly chic wear with a hint of haute couture. Finally a designer who actually makes clothes wearable for the winter and not only the fall. If Chanel made the clogs an it-item this coming spring, I’m smelling that the mukluks are going to be big this winter.

Trois. Gossip Girl is finally back on the screen after a pause. I can’t wait for more Upper East Side drama. I’m saving the newest episode showed yesterday, “The Hurt Locket“, for tonight as a prize for today’s hopefully efficient reading for the coming exam. Is my life sad if this is the highlight of my week? Hah. Who says spending 50 minutes with my future husband aka Chuck Bass is sad? I think not!

Futurist Balenciaga AW2010

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Photos (collage): vogue.co.uk

I’m sitting here at the Uni library reading about Italian fashion under fascism with focus on the Futurist fashion and it’s manifestos as a part of my course literature, at the same time the photos from the Balenciaga AW2010 Collection arrive directly from Paris Fashion Week. In a way the sci-fi and abstract shapes in pastels blended with vibrant colors and patterns remind me of the Futurist fashion I just read about. The Futurist Manifesto amongst other points claimed: “Color! We need color to compete with the Italian sun.” Balenciaga was founded by Spanish Cristóbal Balenciaga with now headquarters in Paris with Nicolas Ghesquière as creative director and still I find resemblances to the Italian fashion, although if I continue reading my literature instead of refreshing my Twitter for Paris Fashion Week updates every five seconds, I’d learn that the Italian fashion was trying to free itself from French hegemony and that’s probably why I find the latest Balenciaga collection a bit like  a 21st century version of the Futurist fashion which tried ruling Italian fashion with the Manifesto during the 1914.

If you’re still hanging on to my geekish blabber about course literature and history, esthetically I find this collection so refreshing and I’m loving all the details, structures, patterns, and of course the avant-garde shapes that are very Balenciaga. That house never stops to surprise and amaze me. Are you yeaying are naying? I’m definately yeaying. The future looks bright!

Igor + André = Chris Benz AW2010

Monday, March 1st, 2010

Photos: dannyrobertsdiary.blogspot.com

I’m starting my Monday with a set of amazing photos from the image diary of Danny Roberts from Igor+André. The photos (love the editing here!) along with the Chris Benz Fall 2010 Collection are stunning! Like wowz!

Monday means agenda day. Except that I like planning my week when Monday starts (instead of Sunday), so I can plot in things to do and events to go to but still keep it impulsive and open, it’s always nice to start the week off with a bam! I’m off to do my bamming stuff now, so enjoy the photos and I might smell you later.

The Selby

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

Recently got acquainted with The Selby through Kanye West‘s new art and culture blog. The Selby is a project driven by Tom Selby, a photographer and illustrator, who offers an inside view of creative individuals and their personal space from Paris to Tokyo to Los Angeles to Milan and so on. As the stalker I am, I’m always curious about how and where people live and work, so this is very enjoyable flickering through all the photos of the different spaces including a short interview with each person. I’m also intrigued by the photos of tiny details stating the individuals favorite items or personality. Think I have to buy Selby’s book, The Selby is In Your Place, which will be released in May. Here’s a few of my favorites, a shocker that they’re all situated in New York.

Hedi Slimane Interview

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Photos: hedislimane.com/diary

Style.com‘s editor in chief, Dirk Standen, is doing a series of interview with leading figures in the fashion  industry about the future of fashion.  Just read the one with former designer for Dior Homme and photographer, Hedi Slimane, over here. His photo diary filled with black and white photos are definitely one of my absolute favorites. According to style.com this is his first interview in almost three years, and I thought I should tip you about some interesting reading. It’s a long interview, but elusive Slimane gives his own insight and good answers about the challenges and new opportunities that lie ahead in a world of digital revolution. Highly recommended for anyone interested in fashion behind the surface!

First View of Burberry Prorsum AW2010

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Photos: Screenshots from live.burberry.com during the live stream show

Did you catch the live streaming of the Burberry Prorsum Autumn Winter 2010 Collection that just went down in London? I certainly did, and wow! For your own sake you should know by now the fact that Burberry is a master in outerwear, and combined with Christopher Bailey’s eye for details it’s seldom a miss. I’m still fantasizing about being a happy owner of one of the shoulder detailed epaulette trench coats from the Spring 2010 Collection. They are beyond amazing! But we’re not going to talk about the Spring Collection now, because the coming fall Burberry Prorsum is feeding us with one great outerwear after another. While watching the live stream I found myself wanting so to say every piece of outerwear that went down the runway, from the uniform inspired coats in navy to the quilted leather aviator jacket to the patched white fur coats making me think of sheep or lambs gone chic. Psst, some items are already available for order right here until 26 February for whoever got the wallet.

The fantastic outerwear and beautiful details were actually no surprise, the shearling-lined buckled boots on the other side, it had my jaw drop and drooling momentarily. I’m not a stiletto person in general, but those boots are going to be tough to get out of my mind, so someone please put them on my feet instead. Rawr!

And yeah, the color palette? I already shared my excitement when the pre-fall collection came out. I’ll most likely continue my Burberry Prorsum craze when the press photos arrives. In the mean time, let’s hail Christopher Bailey for Burberry. After all, he also won the designer of the year prize at Elle Style Awards last night. Congrats!

Live Stream: Burberry Prorsum AW2010

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Above Christopher Bailey is getting ready for his runway show showing later today at London Fashion Week over at the show space the day before.

I received a mail from Burberry a few weeks ago about the great news that Burberry is to live stream its upcoming Autumn Winter 2010/11 womenswear show in 3D to events in New York, Paris, Dubai, Tokyo and Los Angeles. It’s the first fashion show streaming in 3D, no wonder the Burberry team is excited. I am too! Burberry Prorsum is always one of my favorites during London Fashion Week and I’m looking forward to see what Bailey has cooked up for this next season without waiting for the press photos to roll in.

Since I’m not finding myself in neither of the cities streaming the show in 3D (too bad! I was looking forward to using my dorky 3d-glasses again), I’m taking my seat right here in my own couch at live.burberry.com to watch it in 2D live at 4 PM (GMT) later. Who needs front row when we have live stream row?

Blue Lips

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

Photos: nylonmag.com

No surprise that designers have been inspired by one of the biggest film this year, Avatar – and it looks like make-up artists are jumping the bandwagon. The color blue is hotter than ever. Hannah Marshall showed her Fall 2010 Collection during ongoing London Fashion Week with all her models covered in blue lips. Cool!

Reminds me that the first lipstick I ever bought back in my teenage days was actually a blue one from the cheap shop Nille followed by a silver one. Haha. No red or pink for Natalie, she obviously wanted to be cool. No wonder the boys didn’t stand in line to kiss me…

Proenza Schouler Fall 2010

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Photos (collage): elleuk.com

New York Fashion Week is ending today and I finally have time to catch up on all the shows from my favorite Fashion Week now that I’m back somewhere with an internet connection that doesn’t spend half a lifetime to load an image.

My favorite of all is actually Proenza Schouler. That’s a new one. Yes, it even beats Marc Jacobs and Marc by Marc Jacobs this time. (I’m sorry, Marc!) Schouler actually had me at the babydoll dresses in the fierce patterns and exclusive colors. After the Fashion Weeks so far I’m definitely smelling a trend with visible sheer socks, but the thigh high socks are just cool enough for school peaking just below the dress. I love the total coolness of the rest of the collection: the patterns, the mix-matching, the royal blue, the touch of fur and the hint of preppyness – not to mention the last girl in my collage who is Jenny Sinkaberg a friend of mine from high school rocking the runways nowadays. The Proenza Schouler girl is ready for college, and I so want to be that girl this fall.

La Gazette To Vogue

I’m back in Stockholm after a lot of errands and sickness in Oslo. Unfortunately I had to pass Oslo Fashion Week due to school priorities. Started back in Stockholm with an intensive day first at the University, then I went to the city looking for a new camera as a prize/gift from my mom because of my A on the last home exam. Woop! I finally have a camera again with some help by sweetie Jessica, so watch out, I’m back in the game!

Today’s lecture was about Paris fashion and the consequences during World War I. We had a lot about the first avant-garde designer Paul Poiret and how his oriental inspired designs influenced fashion, mostly through the fashion illustrations that worked as a new medium to present fashion, but some were also a piece of art. Poiret used illustrators as Iribe and Lepape, where many of Lepape’s illustrations  appeared in the leading fashion magazine in France named La Gazetta du Bon Ton. Later this magazine was taken over by Condé Nast (founder of Condé Nast Publications) situated in New York and he turned it into Vogue instead. If you still are hanging on, this was today’s little lecture from me to you. Now you know a tiny bit of the worlds most influential magazine’s origin if you didn’t already knew. You’re welcome!

The fashion illustrations have come a long way since then, but the illustrations are still beautiful, huh?

So tune in asap for a seat at the show and wait for it to begin, in the meantime Robert Duffy is tweeting like a maniac and the crew backstage is getting ready with the models to hit the runway. Peter Jensen Fall 2010

Monday, February 15th, 2010

Photos (collage): style.com

When Copenhagen Fashion Week ends New York Fashion Week is rolling like hot wheels on a Mercedes-Benz car at the Bryant Park tents.  If I have to mention another designer showing in New York besides from Marc Jacobs (and his underline)  who often tickles my fancy, it’s Danish designer Peter Jensen. Probably because he’s Scandinavian, his designs are very typical my style, and also because he always makes preppy-quirky clothes with his own cute twist.

He showed his Fall 2010 Collection in New York instead of London yesterday on Valentines Day and who else was more appropriate to perform love songs live during his show than Nina Persson from The Cardigans? Lovely dovey music throughout the show while the models went down the catwalk in a schoolgirl charm style. The doll-ish shoes with black socks in were my favorite. Aaand the hats! Sailor inspired style hat for fall. I want so many hats next season that I have to join the royal family and find my own hat designer.

FML While I Watch Alexander Wang

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

I’m sick, exhausted of being sick, my eyes aren’t functioning and everything that’s possible to be wrong with a persons health at the same time is what I got going on now. Plus the internet here is überslow, so excuse the boring blogging this weekend. Sometimes you gotta life, sometimes you’re sick while having a life. FML.com.

While I try getting back on my feet, eyes and what not, enjoy a short broadcast of the Alexander Wang Fall/Winter 2010 show from New York Fashion Week. My Twitter is full of runway shows updates from New York and the last Fashion Week at Bryant Park. Looking very forward to dive deeper into everything later.

R.I.P Alexander McQueen

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Photo: terrysdiary.com

For people who know McQueen, there is always an underlying message. It’s usually only the intellectual ones who understand what’s going on in what I do (Alexander McQueen, Interview – April 1997).

It’s too surreal, tragical and sad. Alexander McQueen committed suicide at an age of 40, one week after his mother’s death. I remember watching a documentary on how he started as a designer, and I felt so intrigued by his whole charisma and family background, on top of his talent and artistic daring designs. His fashion shows were some of my favorites because of the spectacle and drama. Now Fashion Week just wont be the same anymore. I feel just as empty as the brilliant shoes designed by himself above. The headlines and blogs are already filled with the sad news, so I’ll leave it to this.

May you rest in peace. Thoughts go out to your family and friends. You and your talent will be awfully missed in the world of fashion.

Swedish Favorites AW2010

Friday, February 5th, 2010

I’ve finally had time to breathe and relax after a few hectic and intense days lately. Spent most of my time lately sleeping, cleaning and catching up on school work. It’s anyways time to sum up my favorites from Fashion Week by Berns this season. We might spot a few trends along the report too.

minimarket-aw2010-1

minimarket-aw2010-2

Minimarket was a fresh splash of color. Not only literally. It was nice to see another color palette than grey, black and nude on the Swedish fashion venue. I had high expectations since the Minimarket sisters won the designer award at the Elle gala last Friday, and luckily they met all my expectations. I love all the quirky details like the feather shoulder ornaments, the cool helmets (some were covered with pearls in the back), the colorful tights and the patterns inspired by an Indian cult.

Carin Wester was the last show at Berns Salonger and I think the collection blew most of us away. Wow! The models along with the hair were amazing. My crush on Frida Gustavsson didn’t fade during this show to say so. The collection was a perfect mix of floor length dresses and skirts, luxurious baggy trousers, basics pieces, transparent tights and awesome shoes in form of wedges. I also loved most pieces for the men. Will definitely dress my boyfriend in Carin Wester this fall.

Stylein was very clean and casual in a good way. I want a pair of the 50% leather and 50% transparent tights. I also loved the classy dresses with the transparent details by the chest. Transparent is hot! The ankle boots in black or grey had cool and clean details which I would absolutely wear. I also got the best goodie bag with a present card at Corinne & Friends which I already used yesterday. Got a permanent eyelash curl treatment. Goodbye eyelash curler!

Dagmar was also one of my top favorites which I already did a short review the first day.

Acne is way cool in every possible term. After attending the Acne party last night at Enskilda Galleriet, I’m convinced that the Acne crew don’t only succeed in their ‘Ambition to Create Novel Expressions’ but also throw the best Fashion Week parties. So many cool and inspiring people gathered at one place.

Before the party designer Jonny Johansson showed the Acne Pre-Fall 2010 collection for women and main wear for men here in Stockholm. A lot of flight gear inspired pieces. The shoes this fall is even more awesome than ever. Acne can’t stop but amaze me on that part. For pictures visit Caroline.

The day before Johansson showed the Acne AW2010 collection in East London. The show was entitled ‘Svart Snö‘ (Black Snow) while the inspiration source was Star Wars: The Clone Wars. How awesome ain’t that? I’m usually not a big fan of sci-fi, but this fascinates me beyond the galaxy! The models forehead were painted in metallics and we see the cartoons and droids inspiration throughout the collection. The chance is very big that I might want to look like a chic galactic warrior this fall.
